My Story

I have always had a desire to design and create but it was not until June of 2020 that I put that desire into action and became a woodworker. I was hooked. The action of taking simple wood boards and turning them into functional pieces of furniture and household items excited me to no end. It started with low-cost furniture made out of construction lumber and pallet wood, then I went on to work with various hardwoods. My wife and I had just bought a house in Northern California around this time so I decided to build the furniture. As I grew in my skills the furniture got better and better, but I know I will be a lifelong learner and my skills will always progress. I will never be “done.”

After being a physical education teacher for 5 years I decided to stop teaching in 2023 to focus more on my family and woodworking. I currently still work as a certified personal trainer (which I have been doing since 2013) but my woodworking business is now a large part of my life, which I love. Before, when I tried to juggle all 3 (teaching, personal training, and woodworking) my typical week consisted of working 65+ hours and basically not seeing my newborn daughter until the weekend. I quickly realized that this was not going to work for me so I made a change and am so grateful that I did.

The first couple years as a woodworker I would buy plans to help me build furniture that I saw other people building. Although these plans did the job, I was never completely satisfied with them. Either the written descriptions were not detailed enough, or the diagrams were not clear, or there were no videos to follow along with, and I had to figure things out on my own. That is when I decided to create my own written and video plans that were so detailed that someone who has never built anything before could follow along with ease. And even though my written plans could stand alone, I always create a video of me building the project with a voiceover in case there are any questions about how it is put together.

My process is simple yet effective. I create the written plans for a project first using SketchUp and Google Docs. On paper the build should go together flawlessly but that is not always the case. Then I build the project using the written plans I created and record every step. During the build I always find things I missed or ways I could improve the build. Then I correct the written plans and edit the video. In the end, when someone buys my plans they are getting something that has been battle tested and works.

Woodworking has given me so much and I am so excited to keep sharing everything I do with you.
